ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT

Below is the preamble that all members of GLEXCON LTD will prescribe to as an active or participative member / entity of the organization. This document will form an Addendum to any contract or agreement entered into once ratified and all members will open their signatures to this document. This document enshrines the core belief system in what we stand for and how we will conduct ourselves. It will also serve as the mantra for those that will come after us not to forget how we have progressed and improved ourselves and those we serve.

CODE OF CONDUCT

GLEXCON LTD is a community-based organization dedicated to preparing Communities to make ethical and moral choices over their development by instilling in them the values of Community Development to lead positive social change thereby delivering value to members through information, advocacy and service. This will be achieved by developing Communities in which every citizen attains the right to survival, protection, development, and participation. Participation in the organization’s programs is subject to the observance of the organization’s rules and procedures. The activities outlined below are strictly prohibited. Any participant or staff member who violates this Code is subject to discipline, up to and including removal from the program / organization.

  • Abusive language towards a staff member, volunteer or another participant.
  • Possession or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs on GLEXCON LTD’s / Client’s property or reporting to the program while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Bringing onto GLEXCON LTD’s / Client’s property dangerous or unauthorized materials such as explosives, firearms, weapons, or other similar items.
  • Discourtesy or rudeness to a fellow participant, staff member or volunteer.
  • Verbal, physical, or visual harassment of another participant, staff member or volunteer.
  • GBV / SEA / SH
  • Sexual harassment of another participant, staff member or volunteer.
  • Actual or threatened violence toward any individual or group.
  • Conduct endangering the life, safety, health or well-being of others.
  • Failure to follow any GLEXCON LTD / Client policy or procedure.
  • Bullying or taking unfair advantage of any participant.
  • Failing to cooperate with a supervisor/leader/mentor.

ETHICS

Ethical lapses on the part of GLEXCON LTD can damage more than just the organization itself. GLEXCON LTD may suffer immediately from bad press and a resulting decline in clients and volunteers who are not willing to contribute freely or labor to an organization they no longer trust. The effects can also spread across the entire sector as the public loses its faith in the trustworthiness of projects in general. And while ethical issues are perennially a problem, ethical lapses by GLEXCON LTD will tend to increase during tough economic times. Protecting GLEXCON LTD organization by being aware of key ethical issues and having a plan to avoid them at best, or deal effectively with them at the worst.

FINANCIAL FRAUD

GLEXCON LTD should not be in the business of monitoring our own financial status. It is too easy and sometimes too tempting to overlook inaccuracies, or even fraudulently alter the numbers. This kind of negligence is bad enough, and it can also mask more serious transgressions like embezzlement of the organization’s funds. Although it costs money, it’s essential to engage an independent auditor to regularly review the organization’s funding sources and expenditures. To ensure that appropriate monitoring is done, this kind of auditing is given priority when the GLEXCON LTD develops its administrative budget.

TAX EVASION

Considerable responsibility comes with the tax status granted to GLEXCON LTD. GLEXCON LTD adheres to its stated purpose when allocating funds, and refrain from promoting political candidates or points of view – which is illegal. Unrelated business income must be properly reported, and taxes paid on any income directed to activities that aren’t related to the GLEXCON LTD’s mission.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST


Conflicting interests can arise in several areas in GLEXCON LTD organization/s. It might be tempting to award significant contracts to a major client or board member, for example, but doing this sets the organization up to act in the best interest of the client, not GLEXCON LTD or its mission. Another form of conflict of interest involves what’s known as tainted money or accepting projects from sources that directly work against GLEXCON LTD’s mission. For example, GLEXCON LTD divisions involved in environmental / agricultural issues and education should think twice about accepting contracts from a known major polluter.

SOLVING ETHICAL ISSUES

Protecting GLEXCON LTD from the fallout of ethical issues involves prevention, monitoring and response when needed. Of these, prevention is the most important. We have a clear statement of ethics and require all employees, volunteers and board members to undergo ethics training at least annually to give our organization a foundation for conducting its affairs ethically. We focus on regular review and monitoring to ensure compliance. Finally, GLEXCON LTD has a process for investigating, responding to and correcting the hopefully few ethical lapses that might occur.
